yj bogger or xj?

ok i picked up an 89 xj 4x4 auto 4 door fully loaded leather the works.
came with 5 extra doors, motor, extra motor/tranny and transfer case/ wire harness for every thing.
(needs brakes, rims/ and a lift for the trails)
driver floor saggy, steering a little loose but i have a 91 for parts as well

i also have the 87 yj 4.2 standard. needs starter, carb rebuild and soon a rad. 230k. solid jeep over all
i have every thing to lift it plus rims and the tires.
wheel wells full of bondo so it could use the trimming Wink

any draw backs on the yj vs xj?
frame VS unibody
2 door short wheel base VS 4 door
std VS auto
carb VS fuel injection
pb/ps VS loaded
easy 10" lift VS 6"

may plan was to pull the motor/tranny from the xj and put into the yj. but now i dont know lol.
Rolling Eyes

think its worth swapping motor/trannys?
ive always wanted a yj but standard in the mud doesnt seem fun
vissers

auto is the way to go for sure

also fuel injected is better than a carb as it wont stall out if you dont pay attention when out on the trials but you only have to get use to it
sheppy4X4

personally i like my xj..visser's right about the fuel injection and i don't like to have to think about a clutch while i'm wheelin'.
Tread lightly HAHAHA

4.2 is one shitty motor go with the fuely
scrappy

if ya want to use the YJ swap motors and the tranny , go with the auto

ya but it does seem like a shit load of work.
think i may hack the xj for the 35s and run it stock more less and do the jeep up well so she dont break

To hack a 4 door stock XJ to clear 35's will not happen unless you want HUGE holes in the back for the mud to fly in and no rear doors. You need 4-5" of lift and cutting Minimum for 35's. OH and good luck building a YJ that does not brake HAHAHAHA!

4" blocks+ f150 coils with blocks and loads of hacking is the plan.
rear inner feners will be gutted and we will see if the doors can stay or not.

4" block = shit loads of axle wrap and BTW F150 coild are stiff, so it will not flex as well as it does now. Also, that is not Stock LOL!

might as well be. my old dd xj was higher then this. f150 better then these pos springs that colapsed 5 coils. and i like 3 wheeling, who needs flex
Mike Dill

I'll take some
scrappy

ya want at least some flex
lostsoul

I know all about driving a rig with no flex, and let me tell you, it is not all that fun.
jeepcat

mine flex's pretty good. i would go with the XJ versus the YJ But that is coming from another XJ owner, you can get coils from national for bout 200 for the front and re-arced springs from niagara springs

ya but this is a temperary toy, as i only bought it for the motor and trans for the yj
only jacking it up and playing with it untill the yj is ready 4 the motor
Garrin & Crystal

I had acouple of XJs and you can get pretty good flex cheeply but don't open your doors while flexed cause most of it comes from the body twisting. lol i know from experience not pretty.
