and anyone know a good site or sites, for spring rates on 4x4 coil springs and lift springs?

Best one I have found so far is Pirate, and search springs lengths, there was a HUGE thread on leaf and coil springs. It gave lengths and spring rates as well.

I have a good calculation if your interested.

Are you trying to figure your ride hight?

trying to figure out what springs i wanna go with in the tracker! was gonna go qa1's 200pounders but they only go up to 14in and unless i build so ugly ass ext'd coil buckets they wont get me high enough to clear 38 plus in.tall tires

so are you no longer gonna buy an atv?

so you already know how to find your deflection rate. Your suspension should not be the limiting factor on what size tires you can run unless you don't want to trim a little fender. What frequency are you aiming for?

trimming is not an issue, i wont be running front fenders more or less at all, but the rear can only be trimmed so far before i am inside and it looks ugly!
spring length will determine how far i can go and a 14in spring is just NOT gonna cut it MAYBE if i was building a buggy, but the 1/4 panels on the tracker will not like that

Well.... you might want to talk to a builder. There are so many other considerations than just clearing your tires. I'm sure you know that and I get the impression that your not the kind of guy to just throw something on there that will make do.

with no fenders and stuff it might aswell be a buggy...
so mike how do you decide what to work on the merc or tracker or im sure you have other things too.. and how is the merc coming?

oh there is a BUTT load to consider aside from and as well as clearance, i have no problems "trimming" but a 14in ling spring wont get me the articulation i want, and if icant do better than the runner why build it?
i am tossed between double triangulated 4 link and 3 link with pan hard, very many pro's and con's to both!

i will NEVER build a buggy i have one little one that would be coming with me and i want more than one child- and i want to keep them out of the weather if things get colds to hot and sunny rainy etc etc! when building the tracker i will be building around the notion of having CHILDREN in it-
as for the merc she is tarped up in front of my garage right now so my brother can work on his mustang chassis before winter- and i am in the midst of running a home based buissness and have been lacking on the time for the merc. it may take me years at this rate but i look forward to finishing her and driving her! maybe ill build it and keep it for my daughter she would look pimp going to high school in it. lucky i am in no rush for it so as times allows ill work ong it. plus its sunny and warm who wants to be in the garage lol

what home based business are you running? are you selling mexicans?
have you thought about doign a coilever setup like the ricerboys have? have you 14 inch spring for exampe and then have the sleeve and colar and youll be able to add another however many inches to the setup. or maybe look into having the springs heated up and strethched a little. itll make em softer and give you more flex if you have them done right

Whats the articulation balance your lookin for? What frequency are you lookin for?
You said you where lookin at 200Lbers but your not putting the the same front and back so what ratio are you lookin for? Do you know what the weight of your rig will be front and back? Are you going to look at a dual rate spring? Do you have an idea of the number of coils, wire size and free length you might want? Will your suspension droop further than your springs and if so will you use shocks, limit straps or a guide to keep the springs in place?
Damn spring selection might be the most important decision of your build, aside from the one you've already made.....KIDS PLUS WHEELIN EQUALS QUALITY FAMILY TIME!!!

yeah building your truck for 2 kids from the start would be a really good idea...
and if you get your wife and kids into it you get to spend more time wheelin!
you only have so much time...im already trying to plan what i can finish by winter... id like to store the 2 cars that are in the garage and get a heater so i can work in the winter...

i dont know at the moment what the front to back weight difference will be!
that the first thing i will have to do once i pull the tracker around from out back!. from all my reading and research i found the qa1 springs are widely used on the trackers and 200lbers being used on all 4 corners. so my enitial starting point would have been there since they are cheap enough to change out as i see fit if not happy with that spring rate!
as for number of coils and size or coil- the qa1's are a high number per inch coil and thinly made- however only being 14in long uninstalled is to short. that being said- i am starting to look more into what spring ill want to use, i may have to give up some of what i want t oget other things that are more important. im not made of money lol so coil overs are not the best choice id be over 2k in to a good set and really dont wanna spend that. so right now i am just playing with lengths of uninstalled coils from there ill look into rate weight size etc. and if i had to ill get the coils custom made its actually not that expensive i have had a set made once before for a car
and family wheeling is what i originally got into this for! my daughter(cadence) is old enough now to go i just need to get the time to make it out

I think id take the custom route... the builders would probably set you up with exactly what you need with only a few questions (after all thats what they do all day long) and like you said its not that expensive.

the downside to customs, is the availability- its a long process by the time they are made and shipped here id be down 3 weeks to a month if i ever needed to replace one. but it is weighing heavily on my mind as to the option ill go with. i usually research the shit out of thus stuff so i dont end up wishing i made a different decision again not rich lol
