Hey, from hamiltonHey, i'm Shawn from hamilton.
I've got a 1985 toyota pickup thats stock to most people, I've got a fresh engine in it with a header and cam. i also swaped in a 5 speed (got rid of automatic) as far as 4wd modification it has none, i do have an aussie locker sitting in the basement and i'm looking for 31"-33" x 10.5 tires that are a little more aggressive than my michilin's.
So far I haven't done any serious offroading but have gone out of my way to find a couple rough dirt roads. Any body ever seen a roadsign that reads "road not intended for pulic use" I didn't want to venture down these roads if it was not legal (although very tempting)
I have yet to experience any serious offroading in a vehicle but do have experience with atv's and rc crawlers and like to consider myself a decent driver.
anyway thats enough of my life story, I'd like to meet some local members and find some mild local trails.
Oh and heres a pic of what i drive, its my first street worthy vehicle (have 3 parts trucks) and i've had it on the road for about 2 weeks lol.
no its not really that goodlooking in person. good. just not that good.

That thing is MINT! Any of those road allowances are open unless posted otherwise. The sign means if you go down there and get stuck, you are on your own, they do not want some clown in mommies Caravan heading down there to Smoke up and getting messed up.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I've seen a few guys in newer tacos rubber neck as they pass in the other direction lol.
About the nall nusting, I browse Pirate4x4.com forums daily and if you've been there the nust peoples nalls quite frequently. You mean that kind of ball busting hehe.
About the axles. I have two solid front axles but they are not for sale(one under my truck one for spare parts... j-arm and birfs). if you need rear axle stuff i might be able to hook you up. I've got 3 parts trucks also let me know if you need anything. don't ask for body panels. Good 1st gen. 4runner intirior on my dads old truck.

Thank you for clearing that up. I am quite excited to explore these roads now. i've got a couple friends my age with stock toyotas that would enjoy this also. I spent all day friday trying to find somewhere where i would need to lock my hubs and everytime i got to a road that looked good i would see a sign like that.
Your samurai is pretty awsome. i've never actually seen a long wb sammie in person.
Also stanger I belive I have seen your truck on pirate4x4 before.

Mike and I are both on Pirate, but as you are well aware it is far better to keep a low profile there! I think I caused enough shit on there the first week I was on to last me a life time. Remember one thing, even if the road looks easy, do not go in alone, we have had way too many people call for help because they had no one. Just ask the clowns I have had to go get at GM LOL!

Theres this old guy that lives in the country near me. you should have seen the pile behind his barn. I only bought one of my parts trucks(84 4runner), i got a braley running 89 runner for free (nowhere near road worthy and a 86 excab that ran decent blown t case for free( one in the pic at the top). I guess i just know a guy who knows a guy.
I would highly advise stockpiling samies (not the ones from quiznos) they are pretty rare and theres nothing better that haveing your own personal auto wreckers.

Yeah i keep an extremely low profile there. i'm sure you've seen 4runner ricks buildups and his current sammie build up. that guy is a machine.
I've learned the don't go alone lesson. I didn't really make an arse of myself though. I've also got a highlift jack and i'm going to get a tug strap and tire plug kit asap. highlift i never carry with me. at factory l hight the factory jack is fine. and weighs way less.

Hi lift is an option to pull you out as well, like a Come along, so the added weight makes it worth it. I am working on adding a second winch, to the rear of mine, it is more weight again, but as light as mine is, it is OK not to mention, it helps with all the Jeeps we wheel with. Then I do not have to do a 20 point turn to pull them out HAHAHAHAHA!

I'm not one to bash jeeps as much as you do because i fear they day that I would have to get pulled out by one. but i guess you speak from experience BAHAHahah

Thanks, as far as i know the body was done in 2000-2002, the seams on the bed are just barley starting, and a couple little places also. I don't plan to drive it in the winter, i'd like to pick up a beater for that. Rust i don't like, dents are okay. .

is that a engbldr dual row timing chain?

| big t wrote: | | is that a engbldr dual row timing chain? |
Nope, factory toyota
84 and older blocks have dome top pistons, they also have a different (fatter) timing cover. early block of these blocks (82ish) had dual row timing chains. my block came out of an 84 4runner. To run efi with domed top pistons you have to fund an older head or celica head with the holes for efi manifolds (also has round NOT PEAR, exhaust ports). the oil pump is also different on these motors.
In short, my motor is a frankinstien...hence the color, and if you want to run dual row on the cheap find an older block with a head you can bolt efi manifolds to.

I wouldn't mess with them either lol. It was the only motor i had at the time. I was doing a highschool co-op and he asked if i wanted to bring in a motor to rebuild. i almost crapped myself when i pulled off the head and saw a dual row timing chain and the odd looking domed top pistons (never knew they existed in 22re's) One of the cam jounals was ripped up and i had to buy a new celica casting for it.

i used to have a celicia with a 22re alot faster than the gen 2 runners i got now..
do you have a header?
|
4runner666

Yes, Its from lc engineering. pics on page 2
I've never driven a 22re celica, it would be neat to feel the difference.

100 BUCKS!!!! thats a killer deal.

T at current fuel costs it will cost you $150 in gas LOL!

HAHAH, yeah they just keep creeping up . my dad told me he used to get mad when it cost him more that 20 dollars to fill his car back in the day.
|

yeah i think im gonna buy a whole other truck instead of that header
i already have a manifold taht in good shape..
if i had to drive my 4runner it would be atleast prolly 70-100
|

|
There you go, so not much of a savings by the time you factor in your time LOL!
|
4runner666
|
mine was just below 400 without duty and shipping. (dad brought it back from a trip to arizona) this was for the street header kit. I would say its still worth the money even factoring in the gas money. it makes the engine look, sound and perform better. i can comment on the seat of the pants difference it made because i changed many things at the same time. I can get a video, my truck sounds like a v8 at idle.
